More than 10,000 wines tasted for this 2014 edition
ONLY TWO WINES, A RED WINE AND THE CHIVITE WHITE WINE GET THE HIGHEST RATING IN THIS GUIDE
CHIVITE COLECCIÓN 125 BLANCO AT THE PODIUM OF THE EXCEPTIONAL WINES
· 2004 vintage gets 98 points, the highest rating. It is a new recognition of its aging ability and elegant evolution in the bottle.
· 2010 vintage gets 95 points and a similar projection is expected
· Chivite Colección 125 Late harvest 2009 obtains 95 points, the Reserva 2009, 94 points and 93 points for the Rosé wine of this range.
· The Syrah of Chivite Finca de Villatuerta range, obtains 93 points.
Peñín Guide 2014, presented to the public during the Best Wines of Spain Fair, including wines from 2,137 wineries and 135 winemaking zones. For the first time in 24 years more than 10,000 wines have been tasted. At present, Peñín Guide is considered a benchmark for the international wine industry. The wines are tasted by a professional team, rated according to the American system (50 to 100 points) and awarded from 1 to 5 stars according to their value.
Only two wines, out of more than 10,000 wines, a white and red, have obtained 98 points, the highest rating awarded for 2014. One of these two wines is our Chivite Colección 125 Blanco 2004, made from Chardonnay; according to this guide it shows “bright straw colour. Fruity aromas, candied fruit, citrus, spicy and creamy oak. Varietal in the mouth, full-bodied, mineral, ripe fruit, good acidity”.
This almost ten year old wine has obtained this highest rating, and this means to Julian Chivite, “that this is the best white wine in Spain and one of the best in the world, for its aging ability and elegant evolution”.
Chivite Colección 125 Blanco 2010 also shows these promising qualities as it has been awarded 95 points. This is a wine of “bright yellow colour,. Powerful aroma, sweet species, creamy oak, aromatic herbs, mineral, ripe fruit. Rich in the mouth, smoky aftertaste, tasty, fresh, good acidity”.
Chivite Colección 125 Reserva 2009 has obtanied 94 points, thanks to its “Cherry colour with garnet rim. Ripe fruit aromas, spicy, creamy oak, toasty, mineral, earthy. Powerful in the mouth, tasty, toasty, ripe tannins”.
Chivite Colección 125 Late harvest 2009 is at the podium of exceptional wines in the category of “generous and sweet wines” with 95 points, being a usual wine in this ranking year after year. This wine has been made with Moscatel de grano menudo in several selections and fermented naturally in French oak barrels from the best origins.
Chivite Colección 125 Rosado climbs up to the ranking with 93 points and Chivite Finca de Villatuerta Syrah gets 93 points.Press news
